Wildlife Removal & Exclusions

How Rodents Can Affect Your Health

Rodent droppings and urine not only trigger allergic reactions in human beings, but can also carry disease. Rodents serve as carriers of bacteria, such as salmonella, on their bodies contaminating food sources, kitchen surfaces and equipment. Redfern Pest Solutions can offer the expertise and knowledge of rodent biology to best protect your health and rid your home of a rodent infestation.

Gray Squirrel Control

Squirrels usually enter homes as the evening temperatures rise or drop to look to nest. Homeowners can often detect a squirrel issue due to their playful nature and early rising.  You can most often hear them scurrying around in the attic or coming and going at dawn.

Squirrels can do considerable damage to exterior trim and siding of a home as they widen a current hole or make a new hole in which to enter. Once in the home they can and will gnaw on electrical wiring possibly causing a short or a fire. Squirrels can also be carriers of fleas and other unwanted organisms that will infest the structure after they gain entry.

Flying Squirrel Control

The flying squirrels don’t really fly, but glide into attics from trees or nearby structures.  In “flying,” the squirrels leap spread-eagled and use their outstretched gliding membranes for gliding and their bushy tails for guidance. And they are known to glides up to 60 meters (almost 200 feet).

Flying squirrels can enter the attics through the eaves and soffits through small cracks. They can also easily enter the space between the roof top and fascia board, chewing the area for a wider entry point.

Bat Control

Bats are nocturnal, flying animals that are known for living in dark, secluded areas.  Your attic make for a perfect place for bats to set up residence.  Bats are small mammals and can enter your home through very small openings or cracks.

Bats are “protected” in Georgia during the maternity season of April 1st through July 31st.  If you think you have a bat issue, it is imperative that you contact a professional to learn about your option for removal.

Rat Control

Rats pose many threats to you, your family and your home.  They can cause allergies, spread disease and also bring fleas, mites, ticks and lice into your home. Rats are known for the damage they cause by chewing on and through materials, urinating on food, and eating stored foods.

Rats can enter structures through small openings—as small as the size of a quarter. They are excellent climbers and often enter a home in the fall when outside food sources become scarce. They can also be found under, in and around structures, such as in fields or wood piles.

Raccoon & Opossum Control

Both raccoons and opossums are nocturnal and most commonly look for food at night. Raccoon and opossums are scavengers, often seem rummaging through the trash.  They nest in attics or crawl spaces of homes and other structures.

Raccoons can carry rabies and roundworm. The roundworm can be contracted by someone not wearing breathing protection while cleaning the bathroom area of raccoons. Fleas and other parasites may be associated with raccoons nesting in the attic or crawlspace. They cause damage to structures when creating an entry into the attic or crawl spaces.

Opossums really can ‘play dead‘ to trick predators.  They can distress pets, give a nasty bite, spread fleas and other parasites.  Though they will live under sheds and decks, they most commonly nest in attics and use the attic as their toilet.  Yuck.  But the good news is, they are slow and not real smart, so they are easy to trap.

Snake Control

Many people are not snake lovers and find their presence very unsettling.  The Golden Isles area is home to many types of snakes including pigmy rattlesnakes, water moccasins, diamondback rattlesnakes, coral snakes, black racers and others.  We offer a monthly snake repellent service.  The repellent is applied around perimeter of yard and will repel most snakes.

Solutions

There are 3 main solutions for wildlife issues: trapping, exclusion and live trapping. There is no registered or effective chemical repellent for wildlife (other than for snakes), but the homeowner does have some options.

Trapping

We provide three weeks of trapping for rodents in your attic or on your property.  We do not offer a warranty for trapping without exclusion work being performed as this will not prevent the animals from returning.

Exclusion

Exclusion work includes repairing holes and cracks where rodents are entering the home.  All exclusion services include a clean up of droppings on hard surfaces and sanitizing the infected areas.  A wildlife exclusion is the most effective and thorough process of reducing the likelihood that wildlife will return.  We provide a one year warranty covering the work we performed and is renewable and transferable to the new homeowner if the home is sold.

Live Trapping

Raccoons, opossums and armadillos require live trapping.  As with trapping, we do not offer a warranty for live trapping because we cannot prevent the animals from returning.
